we had some of the cong go all the way to california to attend the same assembly that they knew michael jackson would attend!
when i made a comment about how they were going just to get a glimpse of him.
that was not received too well.
I walked past Prince at one of the last circuit assemblys I went to. When I first saw him, little short guy, wearing what was obviously not your typical dub suit, NOT typical dub hair, and his very fine wife, I did a double-take, then realized who it was and tried not to stare.
Then Larry Graham was on the program at the DC, giving his experience, how he was able to 'simplify' his life to make room to pioneer. Yeah, cause I can really relate to a millionaire rock star who still is able to pioneer.

announced our circuit overseer last night in his talk about the urgency to preach because of the times.
followed by a silence that was broken with ohhhs and ahhhs.
he said that a couple of times throughout his part, simulating a beating heart with his fist.
I think its great that the CO makes comments like that. Its that kind of hardcore statement that the Org in general has been backing away from in current years, as they try to present a more mainstream image.
They would never be so bold in print anymore, even at a convention they have to watch what they say, but a CO or DO at a Hall can get away with remarks like that.
You know there have to be dubs sitting there that are going to be bothered by such a cruel statement, and might start to do some <gasp!!!> independent thinking!!!!

i dont get on here very often, but when i saw this i figured that you would like to know about it.
it seems that the catholic church here in oregon (u. s.
) is doing everything possible to shield its assets from the sex-abuse liability they have incurred.
Amazing,
I think one of us is misunderstanding the Oregon case. My take is that by the parishioners being named as the owners of the all the local church property, so that they/the church don't have to pay out millions and millions to settle lawsuits. The parishioners are not liable in these lawsuits, therefore if the parishioners own the property, it can't be used to pay the lawsuits/settlements.
They are trying to deprive the victims of collecting the millions in damages they have been awarded. If this works, the Society could easily use the same tactic, should they actually lose, "we don't own the Kingdom Halls, they belong to the local congregations." And so then the victims get squat.
Again, so far the WT hasn't even been found liable in any of the cases that have been brought against them ( although Vicki Boer came close).

How do you figure something like this will hurt the Tower? They have gone to great lengths to keep their assets divvied up among hundreds of legal corporations. Kingdom Halls are owned by the local congregations, despite myths to the contrary that appear far too often on the board.
If anything, I see this defense working much better for the JWs than it will for the Catholics. So I don't see how this will affect them much, especially with their recent court victories. At least with the Catholics, they have already been found liable for millions, while the Watchtower has been able to avoid the same fate.

jul.
On Monday, police returned the foot to Rubottom after taking him to the hospital, where he signed a release allowing them to see his medical records.
WTF?!?!?!?!??? Why did they need to see his medical records???? I would think it would be pretty easy to determine that the guy did, in fact, have a foot amputated, therefore the odds are that the foot they found on his property is his!!!
This is not a case for Columbo, for crying out loud.

edited to add: I think the guy should consider suing the cops for mental anguish or something, just because they are that dumb.

a congregation here in the uk had so many cases of m.e (chronic fatigue) that it was labelled as the jehovahs witness disease.
i must say that in my old cong.
and locally in other congs., there was an abnormally high percentage of people with this problem.why do you think this was the case?????
I agree with elsewhere on the cognitive dissonance being a factor, having to believe that "the end is so close", when its obviously not any closer now than it ever was.
Deep down, I think they know its a lie, but to admit that would mean admitting they have wasted years, perhaps decades of their life on chasing a fantasy.
